Gumboot Friday

Gumboot Friday

Last Friday, it was Gumboot Friday. If you do not know what Gumboot Friday is, it is when you donate  to help raise money towards mental health. When you have bad mental health, it is like wading through thick mud, and you need boots to wade through the mud. So that is why Gumboot Friday is called Gumboot Friday. Mental health is all about the health of your brain. If you think bad comments about yourself, your mental health will become poor. You should always make good comments to yourself and others. So because it was Gumboot Friday, we decided to make beautiful cards with positive messages on them. First, we would get our red books and wrote down some positive messages. You were allowed to do Quotes from the Internet, or simply make a message of your own. Then you had to show the teacher, and if she approved, you could copy it down onto a colored piece of paper. You could also add a picture and color it if you wanted to. The two quotes I used were “the most beautiful things in the world can not be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart.” my other one was” do what a clock does, keep going.”. We all made 2 messages each.
We got the Idea from Neeve because one day we had to do the” “Healthy Puketapapa Student Questionnaire”. We had to  write what we want most out of the options. Neeve had picked Mental Health and in the “what can you do section,”she wrote that we could write cards that have good and positive messages. This relates to our Inquiry topic for this year” Hauora-wellbeing” because Mental health is all about your wellbeing. I think the postcards were a great thing to do. The school recently received 2 messages. One from our school office administrator, Sally , sent us and email. In it, she said that a mum that had received a letter called Sally in a teary voice saying that it changed her son completely. This was very good news, and it just comes to show that no act of kindness is too small.
