Ski camp

Ski camp-How I feel

Tomorrow, which will be the 20th of August, the senior syndicate will be going on ski camp. We are staying at the Crossing for three nights. We are also going to be doing some activities like skiing and snowboarding. I am feeling very excited, anxious, and curious. I'm excited because I will be able to experience different things with my friends.  I am anxious because there might be an avalanche, even though that is highly unlikely. I feel curious because I haven't ever skied before. I think skiing will really push my limits because I have never skied before and might be hard for me.
I think I will learn to be independent because my mum and dad are not there for me on the trip. That way I will have to learn to do everything by myself. I will also feel confident on the mountain  once I have gone on camp.

I think I will feel confident, adventurous and relieved after my trip because I know that I have finally faced my fears and skied.

The Mud run

The Junior Tough Guy & Gal Challenge/Mud Run

On July the 2nd, It was time for the people in Running Club to go to the Mud Run. We had been training really hard for this and the Hobsonville Run (In a different blog of mine). We had to come in the morning, all dressed in our school sports uniform. Our school sports uniform was a short sleeved navy to with a yellow stripe, navy shorts and a navy colored jacket with a yellow stripe running through. Every piece of clothing said "WAIKOWHAI PRIMARY SCHOOL" In bold capitals.

We all had to tape our shoes to our feet with electrical or duct tape so they didn't get stuck in the mud. At eight o'clock in the morning, we gathered near the sandpit, and put our bags on a waterproof sheet. Ms Sands (my class teacher and running coach) called out the roll, and sorted us into some cars to get to the Helensville Point. I was with Abigail, and her parents. When we finally arrived at our destination, we pinned  number markings onto our t-shirts. After that we had around thirty minutes of running around before we had to get to the event van for the briefing. In those thirty minutes I ran up and down the ramps with Abigail. It was drizzling slightly, but that was no matter.

Just then I heard the loud voice of a person of a megaphone. The person was saying that the briefing was about to start. We all headed over to the van, and listened. Surprisingly, the man held a dance party, and had some songs sung. In a while, we stopped, and we were told about what was going to be happening, and what we would have to go through.
Another ten minutes passed and the people with the  blue number plates o their chests went to the starting line. Those were the year sevens and eights. Once they had set off, the green number plated people went. That was me, year fives and sixes. I felt nervous as I approached the muddy starting line. We were set off in little groups. When I started to run, I felt warm, even though it was raining.

This was a three kilometre race. The hardest part for me was going up the very slippery and very muddy hills. At the end of the race, the mud was only up to my waist, with is considerably clean. I enjoyed the race very much, and I recommend you to join this run if possible. It is a very good way to enjoy yourself.
Here are the pictures below.

Sorry, but there aren't any photos of us in the middle of the mud run!

Novel work-A Friend in Paradise

Novel work- A Friend in Paradise by Des Hunt

In Term Two, my reading group (maroon) have been reading the book, "A Friend in Paradise".  The cyan group was reading The Secret Of Jelly Mountain by Des Hunt, magenta read Cool by Michael Morpurgo, and orange read Bow Down Shadrach, by Joy Cowley. First, we had to read the book and understand what the author was trying to say. My book was about a boy named Robbie who goes to visit his uncle because his dad died. At first, he didn't like it there, but then, he started liking it after going to Paradise (a place with lots of birds and bush), meeting Price, and finding out about the kaweau. The first two activities were comprehension questions, one for chapters 2-3 and one for chapters 10-11. Our other activity was to do a describe map about Robbie.

Altogether, I loved the book a lot and I recommend others to read it. My favourite part of the book was when there was a lahar and Robbie was stuck on the island with richardson. A lahar is a violent type of mudflow with rocky debris and water. Some themes I recognised were danger and saving other species of animals. My work is down below
