Painting of people

Cultural Art

This term, the whole school has been working on some cultural paintings. Each class got two cultures assigned to them, for a girl template and a boy template. My class (Hauraki) got a Sri Lankan girl and an Afghan boy. First, in term two, we had to design a Sri Lankan girl wearing traditional costume and an Afghan boy wearing traditional costume. We used our chromebooks to find designs and patterns to use in our plans. After we had finished that, we numbered our books and laid them out on the floor. Others had to vote for which girl and boy looked more suitable. For the girl, we picked numbers six and eight. For the boy we picked ten and four. The next step was to plan out some drawings, mixing the designs 6 and 8 for the girl, and 10 and 4 for the boy.

Finally in term three, we were able to start painting a real life sized picture. Our teacher Ms Sands drew out the template, and then we started painting. For the Sri Lankan girl, Ms Sands had drawn a saree and headpiece. For the boy, there was a colourful vest with a white shirt and pants. He also had a very colorful hat. We first painted the skin, then the main clothes, then accessories, and finally we cleaned the edges. The teachers are planning to cut out the finished people and hang then onto out on the plain blue wood wall that goes all the way across one side of the school.

  1. Hi Ama, It's Jia from Waitemata. I really liked your blog. I really liked how you added so much detail to explaining what number you chose. Your blog reminded me of our finished projects and how much fun painting was. Maybe next time you could reread you blog and make sure everything makes sense because your last sentence was a bit muddled up. Other than that your blog was amazing.
